Force Gurkha Xtreme 140 HP version will be launched in India later this month with a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

The Gurkha Xtreme will be a more challenging rival to the Mahindra Thar

Force Motors is readying a new range-topping variant of the Gurkha 3-door SUV. Christened the Gurkha Xtreme, the new variant may look similar to the current model on the outside but gets major changes under the hood. The 85 HP 2.6-litre diesel engine will be replaced by a new Mercedes-Benz OM611-derived 2.2-litre diesel unit. That’s not all! The Gurkha Xtreme will get the much-needed bump in power. Yes, the new 2.2-litre oil-burner churns out 140 HP of power and 321 Nm of torque.

The 2.2-litre diesel mill is essentially the same that powered the Force One SUV (now discontinued). Along with the new powerplant, the company will also offer a new Mercedes-Benz G32 5-speed manual gearbox which links to the engine via a dual-mass flywheel. A low-range transfer case will be offered but without the shift-on-the-fly system. Like the standard Gurkha, the Gurkha Xtreme too will get front and rear differential locks. The suspension setup is likely to get revisions too resulting in major improvements in the approach, departure and ramp break over angles which now stand at 44 degrees, 35 degrees and 29 degrees respectively. Ground clearance is rated at 205 mm while the wading depth is 550 mm.

The Gurkha Xtreme 140 HP is expected to be launched later this month while a few dealers have already started taking bookings for the same. The off-road vehicle is likely to be priced at around Rs. 14 lakhs (on-road).
