General Motors India has today confirmed the launch of the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV in 2015 and Chevrolet Spin MPV in 2016. The American car brand’s current focus is to expand their presence in the Indian market by introducing new products with better quality and good purchasing experience. At the 2014 Auto Expo, General Motors showcased the Trailblazer SUV to the Indian audience and received a positive feedback. This is a good move by the automaker that they have taken the feedback seriously and are keen to introduce the Trailblazer in the second half of 2015.

The Chevrolet Spin MPV was not showcased at the biennial show but was recently spied testing in India. Considering the rise in premium MPV space and buyers taking the segment seriously, the Spin could do well in India with a mature design and better quality compared to the current offerings from GM India. We expect General Motors to launch the Spin at the 2016 Auto Expo, which is scheduled to happen in February 2016.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is a full-size 7-seater SUV, which will compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and the upcoming Ford Endeavour. The Trailblazer is offered with a 2.5-litre diesel (150 BHP, 350 Nm) and a 2.8-litre diesel (180 BHP, 470 Nm) engine in the international market and we can expect either of the two engines in India. The Chevrolet Spin comes with a 1.3-litre diesel engine globally and will compete with the Renault Lodgy, Toyota Innova, Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, etc. in the Indian market.

Arvind Saxena, president and managing director, General Motors India has a good experience in the Indian automotive industry. Saxena seems to be confident to revive the Chevrolet brand in India with new products. The company has also announced its exports plans. In 2015, General Motors India plans to export around 19,000 cars to 40 countries. Currently, GM India has 247 sales outlets and 270 service outlets across the country.
