Which is the most popular superbike in India? It is without doubt the Suzuki Hayabusa because almost everyone has heard about this hyperbike, courtesy of the Bollywood movie Dhoom. While many might not know this but Suzuki has seen consistent demand for its flagship motorcycle in India, yes, the Hayabusa does sell in decent numbers for its price. In a move which comes as pleasantly shocking, Suzuki now plans to locally assemble this 300 km/hr machine in India, bringing it via the more cost effective CKD route.

Currently the Suzuki Hayabusa comes via the CBU route and is priced at Rs. 15.95 lakhs for the regular variants and Rs. 16.20 lakhs for the Z Edition (ex-showroom, Delhi). With CKD assembly, the price of the iconic motorcycle will come down by a good Rs. 5 lakhs, making it an attractive proposition at Rs. 11 lakhs. The Hayabusa is powered by a 1340cc, 4-cylinder engine which pumps out 197 PS of power and 155 Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0-100 km/hr in just 3.0 seconds and is electronically limited to a top speed of 299 km/hr. Its main rival is the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R which is faster accelerating.

However, that’s not all, Suzuki plans to assemble more superbikes in India via the CKD route. This means, the company could also bring in more products which would be attractively priced to take on the offerings from Kawasaki, Triumph and Benelli, the other manufacturers in the premium motorcycle space who have committed to CKD operations. The big bike market in India is seeing a boon and with manufacturers showing commitment towards local assembly, the good times are sure to roll. Some superbike makers are still awaited with MV Agusta being on the top of our list.
