At the launch of the Hero electric scooter, the firm should reveal the name of its EV arm
Country’s top 2-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has revealed that it will launch its first electric scooter by March 2022. CFO of the brand, Niranjan Gupta, revealed the above during an analyst call recently.
He also disclosed the fact that a second electric vehicle (EV), developed in partnership with Taiwanese firm Gogoro, will be launched during the second half of 2022.
Hero and Gogoro announced a partnership earlier this year to develop EVs and to establish a battery-swapping (which is the Taiwanese firm’s forte) joint venture in India.
Teased in August during the company’s 10th anniversary celebrations, the first electric scooter from Hero is an all-new product which has sleek styling, split seats, staggered alloy wheels, telescopic fork front suspension and single-sided swingarm.
As we get closer to the Hero electric scooter launch, details about the 2-wheeler such as its battery capacity, range and features, will be revealed. But, the EV is expected to come with swappable batteries from the get-go.
According to Gupta, Hero’s huge distribution network would help the company in the EV segment. He also stated that a large chunk of EV sales will come from the brand’s existing customers.
Finally, the Hero CFO claimed that the semiconductor shortage currently has no effect on the company and added that its inventories are being increased for the festive season.
