The Honda Activa sold over 1 million units during the first 5 months of the current fiscal and has secured the number one position for the third consecutive month in the two-wheeler segment.
Despite the overall de-growth in the two-wheeler segment, the scooter space has been an optimistic lot
with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India being (HMSI) being at the receiving end of the soaring sales. Adding another feather to its hat, the manufacturer once again created a new milestone with its Activa automatic scooter that managed to sell over 1 million units in just five months of the current financial year. Since April 2015, the Japanese auto giant sold 10,01,350 units of the Activa, making it the largest selling two-wheeler in the country.
The Honda Activa turned out to be the market leader for the third consecutive month as the number one two-wheeler on sale beating the Hero Splendor to the title. The Activa was one of the first modern scooters to make it to the Indian market back in 2001 and has been on top of its game almost consistently ever since. Helping Honda achieve the phenomenal number was the spike in sales during the Onam festival in Kerala as the volumes witnessed a 35-50 percent increase. The company iterated that it did not offer any festive offers to drive the sales, but special finance schemes are available.
With the festive season at the brink, Honda is optimistic that sales will escalate further in the year. While geared motorcycles are going through stagnation in volumes, the scooter segment promises impressive growth wherein Honda currently enjoys a 27 percent market share. The automaker also leads the segment with a 59 percent market share, out of which 51 percent is contributed by the Activa alone. Honda sells three variants of the Activa in the country along with other scooters like the Dio and Aviator.
