Honda discontinues CB300R in India, possibly to make space for Rebel 300
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has quietly discontinued the CB300R from its Indian line-up. The model has been delisted from the company’s official website and dealers have confirmed that no remaining stock or fresh bookings are available.
The CB300R first arrived in India in 2019 as a completely knocked down (CKD) import. However, it was pulled off the market within a year when the BS6 emission norms came into effect in 2020. Honda reintroduced the model in early 2022, this time with more localised components, but the bike has now once again been withdrawn from sale.
Powered by a 286cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 31.1 HP at 9000 RPM and 27.5 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM, the CB300R shared its architecture with the older CBR250R but with several refinements. Tipping the scales at just 146 kg, it was the lightest motorcycle in its class, offering nimble handling and brisk performance. Priced last at Rs. 2.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the CB300R occupied a niche position in Honda’s premium range.
While Honda has not provided an official explanation for the model’s discontinuation, industry observers suggest that the move may pave the way for the upcoming Rebel 300. Both motorcycles share the same engine platform, and their coexistence could have led to internal competition. The decision is unlikely linked to emission regulations, as the engine already complies with current standards.
Despite its appealing weight and balanced dynamics, the CB300R struggled to achieve strong sales numbers in India. Even after Honda adjusted its pricing in recent years, the model remained a niche choice among enthusiasts. Whether Honda plans to bring the CB300R back to the Indian market in the future remains uncertain.
