Honda City eHEV launch set to take place on 4th May, bookings currently open and deliveries to begin from mid-May

With the production of the Honda City eHEV already commenced last week at the brand’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, the launch and price reveal of the car will take place on 4th May followed by deliveries from mid-May. Bookings are currently open for the hybrid sedan.

Honda City eHEV, which is set to become the country’s first mass market pure hybrid sedan, has started reaching dealerships. It gets a new 1.5-litre, DOHC, iVTEC engine that runs on Atkinson cycle mated to a power generator which charges the Lithium-ion battery pack located in the back.

Power comes from a 109 PS electric motor that also gets assisted by the engine at higher speeds via a clutch. It puts out an instant peak torque of 253 Nm. There are 4 auto-select modes that ensure maximum efficiency without compromising on performance.

A new electric servo brake system with disk brakes on all 4 wheels enables brake energy regeneration for charging the batteries.

When the motor and engine power the wheels together, the peak output increases up to 126 PS. The hybrid car can crack a top speed of 176 km/hr while the claimed fuel efficiency is 26.5 km/l with CO2 emissions limited to just 89.5 gm/km.

The City eHEV comes with Honda Sensing and Honda Connect technologies. The Honda Sensing system makes use of multiple cameras to perform functions namely Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Auto High Beam.

Additionally, it also offers features like Vehicle Stability Assist, Agile Handling Assist, Emergency Stop at Signals, Hill Start Assist, and Tyre Deflation Warning. All these systems are not just mere dashboard warnings but also take up the job from the driver when the need arises, Honda claims.

Coming to Honda Connect, the City eHEV has a 7-inch full HD TFT display for the driver and an 8-inch touchscreen display at the center offering Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Auto Weblink options.

There’s also an electric parking brake, while the key has additional function of starting the car and powering on the AC from outside. There’s also a sunroof on offer. The hybrid car will be sold in 1 fully loaded variant, ZX, that offers 6 airbags as standard.
