Honda preparing to launch a range of middle-weight bikes in India.

The locally produced middleweight bike could be one of the international models

Honda has recently launched the new Africa Twin in the Indian market. The Japanese bike maker is betting big on the premium segment via BigWing dealerships. The company is now planning to introduce a range of new middleweight motorcycles in the country.

Honda currently doesn’t have any 500cc bike in its Indian portfolio and the only bike in the middle-weight segment is the CBR650R. The new range of 500cc bikes will include CBU imports, CKD assemblies and one mass production bike with 100 percent localisation.

The bike maker confirmed that they will be introducing one of the international middleweight bikes with full localisation in India. The model is not confirmed though and it could be one of these bikes – Honda Rebel 500, Honda CBR500R, Honda CB500F or Honda CB500X.

These bikes get a 471cc, liquid cooled, parallel-twin, DOHC engine which is mated to a 6-speed transmission. Honda is planning to expand its BigWing network in India focusing on premium range of motorcycles for the country.
