Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has introduced a new variant of the Honda NX500 equipped with its proprietary E-Clutch technology, priced at Rs. 7.44 lakhs (ex-showroom). This version commands a premium of Rs. 1.11 lakh over the standard model with a conventional clutch.
The key highlight of this update is the E-Clutch system, which enables clutchless gear shifts while still retaining a manual gear pedal. Using a pair of electronic actuators, the system automatically engages and disengages the clutch during gear changes, low-speed movement and when coming to a halt. Riders can also override the system and use the clutch lever manually if preferred.
Apart from this addition, the motorcycle remains unchanged in terms of design, features and mechanical components. The inclusion of the E-Clutch setup has marginally increased the bike’s weight by 3 kg, bringing the total to 199 kg.
Powering the NX500 is the same 471cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 47 HP at 8500 RPM and 43 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. It continues to be paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The suspension setup comprises a USD fork at the front and a rear monoshock, while braking duties are handled by dual front disc brakes with radially mounted Nissin calipers and a single rear disc, supported by dual-channel ABS.
The NX500 maintains a relatively simple electronic suite. It features a 5-inch TFT display and basic switchgear, along with switchable traction control and dual-channel ABS. It does not offer advanced riding modes or ride-by-wire throttle, sticking instead to a more straightforward riding experience.
Honda is offering the NX500 E-Clutch in two colour options – white and black – with bookings now open across its BigWing dealership network.
In terms of pricing, the NX500 sits in a higher bracket within its segment. Its closest competitors include the BMW F 450 GS and the Kawasaki Versys 650, positioning it among mid-capacity adventure tourers in the Indian market. While the pricing may be on the higher side, the model is expected to appeal to buyers looking for Honda’s reputation for reliability along with the added convenience of clutchless operation.
