The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India Limited (HMSI) unveiled a range of their products at the currently on going 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi. The product portfolio included models like the 110cc Honda Yuga, the Honda CBR150R, the new CB Shine, the 2012 CBR250R, the new Dio Scooter, the VR1300CX and the 2012 CBR1000RR. Apart from the unveiling, Honda also announced that the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer aims to gain leadership in the Indian 2 wheeler market as well in the coming years. For this, Honda is contemplating on bringing its Chinese made models that currently retail in countries like Nigeria. Mr. Tatsuhiro Oyama, senior managing officer & director motorcycle operations said during the unveil that the company is currently carrying out a feasibility study to ascertain the positioning of these bikes in the country. Although currently being manufactured in china, if markets demand they can be produced in India as well.

The company is also planning an aggressive investment of Rs. 1000 crores during 2012-13 for expansion plans and ramping up production capacity. This includes setting up of a new plant, which is going to be in Karnataka. Currently the company has its manufacturing centers at Manesar, Haryana and Tapukara, Rajasthan. By 2020, the company aims to achieve production target of 1 crore units and become the largest two-wheeler company in the country. Honda will also increase its network from the current 1200 outlets in the country. Coming to the launches, Honda unveiled an all new commuter bike called the Dream Yuga. It is powered by a 110cc engine that produces 9 BHP of power @ 7500 RPM and claims a mileage of 72 kmpl (under test conditions). The bike is not a killer on looks, yet has a really long seat for riding comfort and the Honda reliability badge with it. It is expected to hit the markets by mid 2012.

The CBR150R was a sweet surprise from Honda. Carrying over the CBR250R looks, the bike is powered by a 4 stroke 150cc engine that produces 18 BHP of power @ 10,500 RPM and is equipped with front and rear disc brakes. It will be launched by the second half of 2012 and is expected to retail at about Rs. 1.2 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Honda also showcased the refreshed Dio. With a new makeover, the scooter looks more aggressive and funky now. It is powered by a 110cc engine that produces 9 BHP of power and has received a 15% fuel economy improvement over its older version. It also comes with Honda’s Combi-brake feature. It will be on sale from this month in 5 colour options; Sports Red, Matt Axis Grey metallic, Pearl Sunbeam White, Candy Palm Green and Leblon Violet metallic yet with no mention of the pricing.
