Honda SP160 launch soon, to be offered in two variants

Honda is gearing up to introduce the SP160 motorcycle, which is expected to launch in the upcoming festive season in India. The Honda SP160 will share its engine and chassis with the Unicorn.

The SP160, as the name suggests, will get a 162.7cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine from the OBD2 compliant Unicorn. This engine is capable of delivering 12.9 HP at 7500 RPM and 14 Nm torque at 5500 RPM. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The new SP160 is likely to inherit design elements from its smaller sibling, the SP125. However, there are some changes compared to the Unicorn in a few aspects. It comes with a slightly smaller 12-litre fuel tank, while its weight stands at 141 kg, which is 2kg heavier than the Unicorn. Furthermore, the SP160 will get 17-inch wheels, unlike the bigger 18-inch wheels found on the Unicorn.

In terms of braking, the SP160 will get a 276 mm front disc brake. Buyers can choose between a 220 mm disc or 130 mm drum brake for the rear wheel. This means that Honda might offer the SP160 in two different variants – drum and disc.

As for the pricing, the Honda Unicorn is currently available at Rs. 1.09 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Honda SP160 is likely to hit the showrooms next month and is expected to be priced around a similar range.
