Honda’s New V3 Engine With Electric Compressor Teased, Full Reveal Expected Later This Year
Honda unveiled plans for a new V3 engine, promising a compact yet high-performance layout for larger-displacement motorcycles, at EICMA last year. Now, the company has released its first teaser, offering intriguing insights into the upcoming power plant. The video showcases Honda’s motorcycling heritage and innovations like DCT and E-Clutch technology at the beginning.
Then, it shifts to the V3 engine’s distinctive exhaust note, carrying the uneven tone and firing order common to V-type engines. A brief dyno shot reveals the prototype running at 2740 RPM, with more than 1100 hours of runtime logged. This strongly suggests that development has moved well beyond the concept stage into extensive validation testing.
The footage also hints at an electric compressor that produces a distinct whine towards the end of the clip. Unlike conventional turbochargers, this setup allows precise intake air control, independent of engine speed, delivering instant torque at any RPM. Notably, the compact design suits motorcycles, where space constraints are critical.
Honda’s engineers have focused on mass centralisation to improve handling, while removing the intercooler to conserve space. The result is an engine layout that blends smoothness with immediate throttle response. According to Honda, this new V3 configuration will power upcoming large-capacity models, with mass production expected soon.
We anticipate a full reveal later this year. If early signs indicate anything, Honda’s V3 engine could mark a new benchmark in motorcycle performance and packaging.
