Hyundai has reduced the price of the Kona due to the GST rate cut.

Hyundai has slashed the price of its recently launched electric vehicle Kona from Rs. 25.3 lakhs to Rs. 23.71 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom). The price cut is in lieu of the government reducing the GST rate on electric vehicles from 12% to 5%. At the new price, the EV is Rs. 1.58 lakhs cheaper than before. Hyundai announced in a statement that the Kona electric gathered 152 bookings in just 20 days of its launch. New prices are effective from August 2019.

The Hyundai Kona runs on a 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery producing 131 PS of power and a peak torque of 395 Nm. It claims a 0-100 km\hr dash in 9.7 seconds. 3 drive modes- Eco, Comfort and Sport are on offer as well.

The battery can reach 80% of its capacity in an hour using a 50 kW DC fast charger. A standard AC charger will take close to 6 hours for the same. Hyundai buyers will be provided with a portable charger and an AC wall box charger. Once fully charged up, it claims a range of 452 kms.

In terms of safety it gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist, traction control and a Virtual Engine Sound System. It makes the car audible on the road for fellow pedestrians and drivers.
