The Hyundai Kona electric car has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 25.30 lakhs.

The Hyundai Kona was showcased in India at the 2018 Auto Expo and the vehicle did garner a lot of attention from people. This is Hyundai’s first EV for India and it has a claimed range of 452 kms on a full charge which is indeed very good and will be a significant reason for people to consider this car.

The Hyundai Kona has been launched at Rs. 25.30 lakhs (ex-showroom). The vehicle is being brought down to India via the CKD route and there is minor localisation for now. The Kona is available with 4 colour choices – White, Silver, Blue and Black while there’s also a dual tone white with black colour scheme which is available at an additional Rs. 20,000/-.

Compared to the conventional version, the Hyundai Kona EV misses out on a traditional grille and exhaust tips. It gets 17-inch alloys, body cladding, roof rails, automatic LED headlamps and LED tail lights. The charging port is located at the front of the vehicle.

On the inside, the Hyundai Kona gets 7.0-inch dashboard screen, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, HUD, automatic climate control, sunroof, heated ORVMs, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front seats and a reverse camera with parking sensors. The screen can be used to change driving modes, access vehicle information and get to know about the power consumption.

On the safety front, the Hyundai Kona comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, Hill Start Assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The vehicle gets a Virtual Engine Sound System which makes a sound similar to that of internal combustion cars as a safety features for others on the road.

The Hyundai Kona EV is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 136 HP and 395 Nm. It gets a 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery and 0-100 km/hr comes up in a claimed 9.7 seconds. There are 3 driving modes on offer – Eco, Comfort and Sport. The vehicle has adjustable regenerative braking via paddle-shifters.

The battery can be charged to 80% capacity in about 57 mins using a 50 kW DC fast charger or in 6 hours 10 mins using a standard AC charger. Hyundai will provide Kona customers with a home charger and they’ll also install chargers at dealerships. EV charging stations will also be installed at Indian Oil fuel pumps in 4 major cities.

The Hyundai Kona gets a standard warranty of 3 years/unlimited kms while the battery has a warranty of 8 years/1.6 lakh kms.
