Hyundai Electric Micro SUV Plan
This is the short-term EV strategy that Hyundai has planned out

Hyundai’s affordable EV for India will be a micro electric SUV and it will get launched in the market by 2022 with a sub-Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom) price tag.

It is not surprising that Hyundai chose to go the SUV route for that is the body style that Indian customers are moving towards.

Even its rivals are thinking along the same lines. For instance, Mahindra already has the eKUV100, Tata is coming up with the HBX EV and Citroen will also launch its very own electric micro SUV by 2022.

It is not known if Hyundai will use the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) or if it will modify a platform meant for IC-engined vehicles to make the affordable EV.

If the second route is followed, we can be sure that the Hyundai micro electric SUV will have a lower voltage architecture, and not support superfast charging either.

Real world total range of the model should be around the 200 km mark and if battery tech takes a leap before the car’s launch, along with costs getting reduced, the small EV might even come with more range.

Also, the picture above shows that a compact SUV is on the cards as well. So, the possibility of the micro electric SUV having more range does not seem plausible since it will clash with a higher priced model.

In all, three new affordable EVs will be developed to cater to developing markets and all of them will be of the SUV body style.
