The MPV will be based on the Kia Sonet platform

Kia Motors entered the Indian market last year and the South Korean carmaker immediately saw huge volumes thanks to the popularity of the Kia Seltos. The company has also introduced their premium MPV Kia Carnival at the Auto Expo 2020.

They have also showcased the new compact SUV concept Kia Sonet at the biennial event and now have confirmed that they will introduce a mid-size MPV based on the Sonet to compete with the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo.

The new mid-size MPV from Kia will be introduced in 2021. This segment has seen a strong surge of growth of late in the Indian market and currently the leaded of this segment is the Maruti Ertiga.

Kia is hoping to fill the void left by the discontinuation of Maruti Ertiga diesel with their new MPV. The carmaker is betting big on the new MPV as they plan to export the vehicle from India as well.

India currently accounts for 6 percent of Kia’s global sales and with the new products in the pipeline, this figure is likely to increase very soon as the company expects India to account for 10 percent of its global sales.
