We have just received confirmed news from a source about the KTM Super Duke 990 being launched in India in 2014. Bajaj Auto, which owns a 47% stake in the Austrian motorcycle maker is looking at expanding into newer segments with the launch of the flagship Duke. The KTM Super Duke is expected to be priced around Rs. 10 lakhs and the company is considering local assembly of the bike at its Chakan facility. Currently all super bikes in India are brought via the CBU route, which escalates prices to a great extent.

The KTM Super Duke 990 is powered by a 990cc, V-twin engine, which produces a 118 BHP of peak power output. But its not the power output which is fasinating, instead its the power to weight ratio. Weighing just 186 kgs, the Super Duke carries the Duke tradition forward by producing stupendous acceleration and performance. Like all Dukes, the Super Duke 990 carries the best bit of hardware around, right from the tubular space from to the WP Suspensions. The exhaust is place right below the seat (no under belly exhaust here), while the braking duties are taken care by twin-disc brakes at the front and single disc brake at the rear.

With the KTM Super Duke 990 all set to enter India at an aggressive price, it is quite certain that Bajaj Auto would once again shake the entire 1000cc segment. The company has always created a stir with its pricing and expect the Super Duke to be priced SUPERbly. KTM also plans to bring in the Duke 350 (in 2013) and the Duke 690 (launch date not yet confirmed).
