Being just a newcomer in the automobile world, Renault Kwid bookings cross 1.25 lakh units as it gathers the favouritism of customers as a new option for those looking for an economical hatchback.

Renault Kwid First Look Review
The Kwid is priced in a very competitive range of Rs. 2.62-3.67 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Renault launched the Kwid in September 2015 as its entry level compact hatchback. Since the date of its launch, the booking figures of the Kwid are surely moving northwards and have now crossed the digit of 1.25 lakhs. The Kwid has served as an excellent option for those looking for a hatchback other than those from Maruti or Hyundai. The waiting period for the Kwid is around 6-8 months which clearly states its uprising popularity.

The Renault Kwid is powered by a 800cc SCe, 3-cylinder petrol engine which produces 54 BHP with a peak torque of 72 Nm. With a lightweight body, the Kwid manages an ARAI mileage of 25.2 km/l which is rather impressive in the utilitarian car segment. The Kwid is available in 5 variants with manual transmission and is priced starting at Rs. 2.67 lakhs (ex-showroom) for its basic model.

The utility hatchback was recently in the news as Renault declared its future plans to launch a 1000cc Kwid in both manual and automatic (AMT) versions as showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre version is expected to be launched in June 2016, followed by the Easy-R AMT variant, later this year.

No doubt, the Renault Kwid has positioned itself as an prominent small car by giving strict rivalry to the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. The company is now planning to extend its production to cut down the waiting period. Renault recently announced that it is ready to expand its network by increasing its sales and after sales outlets across India in 2016. On a progressive track, the company is looking forward to increase its dealership count from 208 to 240 in the country.

Renault is in an alliance with Nissan with capital investments of over Rs. 5000 crores in the country. The manufacturing facility under this collaboration near Chennai is supposed to have production capacity of around 4.80 lakh units per year in the future. With such geared up expansion plans, a lot is expected from Renault’s regiment. Meanwhile, it will be 1.0 litre Kwid that will do the talking for Renault this summer.
