The Mahindra XUV300 competes in the sub 4-metre compact SUV category

Mahindra has finally launched the XUV300 in India and it is priced from Rs. 7.90-11.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). Bookings were already open across dealerships for a token amount of Rs 11,000/-. The XUV300 is the latest arrival in the sub 4-metre compact SUV segment and it rivals the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon.

The exterior styling of the Mahindra XUV300 is based on the Cheetah design, earlier experienced with its big brother, the XUV500. It inherits the front extended bumper DRL which sort of joins the projector headlamps to the fog lamps, and the rear blacked out floating roof. The front and rear gets skid plates in a contrasting colour and the vehicle is offered in dual tone colour schemes too.

The signature Mahindra six-slat grille and the heavy bumper at the front steal the show. It gets beautiful machine-cut 17-inch alloy wheels in the top spec version and black body side cladding comes standard. The rear looks decent without much of styling and décor and proves practical.

The Mahindra XUV300 gets the top-of-its-class interior in terms of features. It comes fully loaded with a sunroof, front and rear parking sensors and even tyre pressure monitoring system, something which was until now common only to premium SUVs. It also gets gets up to 7 airbags, heated mirrors, disc brakes for all four wheels, dual zone climate control with memory function, front parking sensors, hill hold control and a massive 7-inch infotainment system with smart phone connectivity. There is not much detailing in the dual tone cabin and it feels rough like a traditional Mahindra vehicle, but practical enough. The steering wheel is perfect in size and gets major controls, including cruise control. It even gets a dual zone climate control which is not available in any other car in the segment.

The sitting position is the cherry on the cake and provides a commanding view of the road out front. The compact SUV gets the longest wheelbase in its segment and provides ample space for its passengers. However, the rear seats do lack some cushioning and could have been better. There are lots of storage spaces including a cooled glove box and the massive arm rest storage box.

The powerhouse used to charge the Mahindra XUV300 is a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine making 109 BHP and 200 Nm or a 1.5-litre diesel engine making 115 BHP and 300 Nm. As of now, only a 6-speed manual transmission version is available, however, an AMT version is expected to go on sale soon.
