The unveil of the XUV700 marks the beginning of a new era for Mahindra

The official unveil of the Mahindra XUV700 has finally taken place after months of speculations, and a teaser campaign that lasted pretty long.

Mahindra has come out with all guns blazing and the move to name the product the XUV700 to denote the marked step up in all aspects seem justified.

Externally, the XUV700 looks modern. It still carries many design details of the XUV500, but, the evolutionary styling should suit a conservative market such as ours.

The 3-row SUV comes with a large radiator grille, sleek LED headlamps and fog lights, quite large split tail lamps and has the right mix of creases and curves, while chrome has also been used tastefully.

Unlike the exterior, the interior of the XUV700, which will come in 5- and 7-seat versions, does not have any resemblance to the XUV500. The layout is all new and Mahindra has packed the cabin with features.

The car will be offered in 2 series – MX and AdrenoX or AX. The latter will have 3 variants namely AX3, AX5 and AX7.

The entry-level MX variant is equipped with 7-inch digital cluster and 8-inch touchscreen

Moreover, Mahindra will announce optional packs with features such as 12-speaker 3D sound system by Sony, 360-degree surround view, blind view monitoring, electronic parking brake and wireless charging.

Customers will be offered a choice of a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine which makes 200 PS and 380 Nm of torque and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel is set to come in 2 states of tune – 155 PS and 360 Nm, and 185 PS and up to 450 torques.

Mahindra has not revealed details about the transmission options to be offered with the SUV, but says both manual and automatic choices will be present.

Mahindra says the turbo petrol variant can do the 0-60 km/hr sprint in 4.6 seconds

It also revealed the drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom – which will be on offer. All-wheel drive is there too, as an option.

Mahindra will reveal more details about the vehicle in the coming weeks and will launch the car soon. It will rival the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar.
