As Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce the second generation Ertiga in the Indian market, the carmaker has decided to retain the existing Ertiga and rebrand it as the ‘Ertiga Tour’. The Tour model will most probably be the base variant of the MPV and will cater to the cab aggregators in the country.

The second generation Ertiga is based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform and is longer, wider and taller than the existing model. While the wheelbase is identical, the upcoming Ertiga’s ground clearance is reduced by 5 mm and the boot space has again reduced by 32-litres. Car manufacturers have been following the approach of keeping the older models for the taxi fleet whenever a next generation model comes to replace the former. Maruti did the same with the Swift Dzire and the same trend could follow with the Ertiga.

The Tour badge is expected to make it to the Ertiga very soon and the vehicle will be available in both the petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.4-litre petrol makes 94 HP of power and 130 Nm of torque while the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill outputs 89 HP of power and 200 Nm of torque. Both the powertrains come matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. ABS and dual airbags are likely to be offered as standard equipment.
