Maruti Jimny 5-Seater Spied
A test mule of the new model was spotted back in March

The specs of the upcoming 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which will be manufactured solely in India, have already been leaked online.

When compared with the 3-door Jimny Sierra which is 3550 mm long, the 5-door Jimny will be 300 mm longer at 3850 mm. All of the additional length will go to the extension of the wheelbase, which will increase from 2250 mm to 2550 mm.

However, the overall width (1645 mm), height (1730 mm), track width (1395 mm/1405 mm) and ground clearance (210 mm) will remain the same for both the 3-door and 5-door Jimny models.

However, the biggest difference between the 2 models, as stated in the leaked Maruti Jimny 5-door specs, is the weight, for the 5-door Jimny weighs an additional 100 kg and comes in at 1190 kg.

Given the fact that the overall width has not been altered, it is likely that the 5-door Jimny would only have space for 4 adults. But, it should come with a decent-sized boot.

In comparison with the Thar LX variant (3985 mm long, 1855 mm wide, 1844 mm tall, 2450 mm wheelbase and 226 mm ground clearance), the 5-door Jimny would only have the upper hand when it comes to the wheelbase.

Powering the off-roader would be a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that, as per the leaked specs, will be good for 102 PS at 6000 RPM and 130 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM. A 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT options will be offered.

The car will ride on 195/80-R15 rubber and should be as capable as the 3-door Jimny when it is shown a bit of rough terrain. However, if equipped with the mild hybrid tech, it might suffer a bit.

One other thing to note is that Suzuki is set to give the 3-door Jimny a facelift and it is likely that the cosmetic changes will be carried forward to the model with 2 extra doors as well.

Expected to be launched by the end of this year or in early 2022, the 5-door Jimny will primarily rival the Mahindra Thar and will be sold through Maruti’s Nexa outlets.
