Maruti Suzuki YTB gets a prominent roof spoiler and a shark fin antenna at the rear, alloy wheel design similar to Baleno

The rear portion of the upcoming compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki codenamed YTB has been clicked for the first time. This comes just days after the coupe SUV was snapped from the front and side. Let’s get straight to the details.

First things first, the upcoming YTB shouldn’t be confused with the camouflaged Toyota Yaris Cross currently on tests near Maruti Suzuki’s plants. The Yaris Cross could be rebadged by the Indo-Japanese maker to further increase its SUV count after YTB’s launch.

The spied test mule of the YTB above is heavily camouflaged but the large roof spoiler and shark-fin antenna are seen. The test mule was clicked by a Facebook user by the name Karan Nandwani in Gurgaon.

It has been already confirmed that the coupe SUV will make its global debut at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo while launch will subsequently take place in February. So, just over 6 months to go. Maruti Suzuki might plan a great show of strength at the Auto Expo with its SUV lineup.

The coupe SUV gets a new grille

The front almost resembles the upcoming Grand Vitara. The bonnet is quite tall. It’s sure to offer good road presence and a sense of secure feeling on the inside, 1 of the reasons why people prefer SUVs these days.

The squarish LED headlamps embedded separately on the bumper and the eyebrow LED DRLs on the bonnet lip are reminiscent of the Grand Vitara. The new inverted trapezoidal top grille brings some freshness at the front. The trapezoidal bottom grille gets horizontal slats.

While the alloy wheels are fully camouflaged, a closer look tells us that they are very similar to that of the Baleno’s units. They could be dual-tone Diamond-cut ones like the C-segment hatchback. Even the ORVMs look like they have been borrowed from the Baleno.

The rear features a sloping roofline which is the reason it will turn out to be a proper coupe SUV, a 1-of-a-kind in its segment and a couple of segments above.

The ORVMs are taken, again, from the Baleno

With design inspired from Maruti Suzuki’s Futuro e concept, the YTB could either be built on the same Heartect platform as the 2022 facelifted Baleno or share the platform with a Toyota.

The rear sports a prominent ducktail crease on the tail gate with a hunchback design. The tires are broad and look like 215 section units like the Brezza and should be at least 16-inchers.

The upcoming SUV will mostly share its powertrains with the other SUVs from the company’s stable. It could get the K15C engine. However, for an aggressive entry-price, the base variants might get the same powertrains as the current Baleno.

Sources said, Maruti Suzuki might also reintroduce the 1-litre Booster Jet turbo engine on the car. It will be reportedly manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant and sold via the premium Nexa dealerships.
