Mercedes AMG A45 S
It is a hatchback that has 421 PS of maximum power and all-wheel drive

Although the Mercedes AMG A45 S comes with a hefty price tag, it is the fastest hatchback on sale in India

The Mercedes-AMG A45 S 4Matic+ has been introduced in India with a sticker price of Rs. 79.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), today.

Based on the new generation A-Class, the performance hatchback comes with an AMG-specific radiator grille, LED headlights and large air intakes up front.

Along the sides, the car has flared wheel arches, 19-inch cross-spoke forged alloys, while at the back there are split LED tail lamps, a wide bumper and quad tail pipes flanking a diffuser.

Interior
The interior is typical Mercedes, but with more sporty bits

The Mercedes-AMG A45 S is available with colour choices such as Cosmos Black, Designo Mountain Grey Magno, Designo Patagonia Red, Mountain Grey, Polar White and Sun Yellow.

Inside, there are sport seats for the front occupants, Artico man-made leather and Dinamica microfibre upholstery, red seat belts, a head-up display, 12-speaker (590 W) Burmester sound system and the latest Mercedes infotainment system.

In addition, the performance hatchback also features the AMG Track Pace function that is integrated into the MBUX multimedia system. It can be used to analyse and improve one’s driving ability.

Powertrain
The engine is entirely assembled by hand

The performance hatchback is famed for having the most powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (in a series production car) in the world.

Displacing 1991cc, the motor is tuned to produce 421 PS at 6750 RPM and 500 Nm of torque between 5000-5250 RPM. An 8-speed DCT transfers the engine’s power to all 4 wheels through the all-wheel drive system.

This enables the performance hatchback to smash the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 270 km/hr, which is electronically limited.

It should be a hoot to drive on mountain roads and on a circuit

Apart from the stonking performance figures, the hatchback also features AMG suspension with frequency-selective shock absorbers and a fully variable all-wheel drive system with AMG Torque Control.

Fitted with a whole host of safety tech including Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist, the performance hatchback also features 6 drive modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race), a “Drift” mode and a “Race Start” feature.

For those who do not mind paying more than the base Mercedes-AMG A45 S price tag, there are customisation options to make the car truly their own.
