Mercedes-Benz has introduced an all-electric version of its C-Class sedan, expanding its EV portfolio into the mid-size luxury segment. This marks the first time the C-Class nameplate has been offered as a fully electric model, underpinned by the brand’s new MB.EA architecture.
The electric C-Class uses a 94kWh battery pack paired with an 800V electrical system. The company claims a maximum WLTP range of up to 762 km, positioning it competitively among long-range electric sedans. The C 400 4MATIC variant produces 360kW and is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 4.0 seconds.
Fast-charging capabilities are also a highlight, with support for DC charging speeds of up to 330kW. Under optimal conditions, this allows the car to add up to 325 km of range in approximately 10 minutes. The model also incorporates a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, aimed at improving both efficiency and high-speed performance.
In terms of driving dynamics, the electric sedan can be equipped with rear-axle steering, which reduces the turning circle to 11.2 metres, along with air suspension featuring adaptive damping. Practicality is addressed with a 470-litre boot and an additional 101-litre front storage compartment. The vehicle is also rated to tow up to 1.8 tonnes.
From a design standpoint, Mercedes-Benz has moved away from the more radical styling seen on earlier EQ models. Instead, the electric C-Class adopts a silhouette closer to its combustion-engined counterpart, featuring a sloping roofline and a fastback-style rear. The front fascia includes an illuminated grille panel with the signature three-pointed star, flanked by LED headlamps with integrated lighting elements. Star-themed detailing is also carried over to the tail-lamps.
Inside, the cabin is dominated by a large 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that spans the width of the dashboard. Powered by the brand’s new MB.OS, the system supports over-the-air updates and integrates an AI-based virtual assistant. Additional features include a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, multi-zone climate control and electrically adjustable seats with memory, ventilation and massage functions. A suite of driver assistance systems is also included.
The electric C-Class is expected to go on sale first in the United States, with availability in other markets to follow. There is currently no confirmation regarding its launch in India.
