2013 Mercedes G63 AMG Launch India

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new 2013 G-Class in India. The G-Class facelift gets updates to both the exteriors and interiors, along with a new engine. Out goes the G55 AMG and in comes the G63 AMG, which is powered by a 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 unit, producing 544 HP of power and a mammoth 760 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed Speedshift Plus automatic transmission. Yes, the G-Wagon has the ability to conquer any terrain and weighs quite a bit. However even with all that weight under its belly, the G63 AMG can sprint to 100 km/hr from a standstill in just 5.4 seconds, with the top speed being limited to 210 km/hr. Mercedes-Benz has priced the new G-Class at Rs. 1.46 crores (ex-showroom Mumbai).

The G-Class was Mercedes-Benz’ least selling model at one point of time and the German car maker was almost on the verge of axing the vehicle. However demand in China and Russia saved the G-Class from extinction and the company expects to sell decent number of units in India, considering the high price. The new G-Class continues to be a CBU model and is produced in Austria. It is also known as the G-Wagen, which is a short for Geländewagen (cross country vehicle). The G-Class was conceptualized as a military vehicle and is the oldest Mercedes model on sale, spanning over 32 years.

On the inside, the leather trimmed dashboard and the high use of leather all across the steering wheel and door panels make the G63 AMG’s cabin very luxurious. The vehicle is equipped with all the latest Mercedes-Benz gadgets, thereby offering the best of both world’s – retro appeal and modern technology.

Mercedes-Benz has provided a range of cars for the upcoming Die Hard movie. The three-pointed star has blown a few BMWs in the action flick and more than 132 cars were completely damaged in the chase scene. The launch theme revolves around the movie and Mercedes claims the G-Class is the most used car in Hollywood.
