New petrol variant added to the GLE lineup

Mercedes introduced the new generation GLE in India in January this year. The luxury SUV was launched in two variants – 300d and 400d Hip Hop Edition. While the former is entry-level CKD trim, the latter is top-end CBU variant.

Now the German luxury carmaker has launched two new variants – GLE 450 and 400d. Both of these are CKD. The petrol version has been introduced for the first time. However, the 400d gets much more affordable thanks to local assembly and few changes in equipment.

All the variants offered in India are long-wheelbase with extra leg room in the cabin. Mercedes claims there is already a 3 month waiting period for the GLE. They expect the new variants to get in more volumes.

The Mercedes GLE 450 is powered by a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It produces 367 HP and 500 Nm of torque. The engine comes with 48V mild-hybrid tech which further adds 22 HP and 250 Nm of torque.

The Mercedes GLE 400d comes with a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine. It churns out 330 HP and 700 Nm of torque. Both petrol and diesel have a claimed 0-100 km/hr timing of 5.7 seconds.

Both these engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Some of the key highlights include multibeam LED headlights with intelligent headlight control, Airmatic suspension, auto park assist with 360 degree camera, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, 4-zone climate control, etc.
