First unveiled at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mercedes GLS was launched in India in 2016 as a replacement to the GL-Class. Till now, the SUV was available in three trim levels – GLS350d and GLS400, both of which are priced at Rs. 82.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai), along with the range-topping 63 AMG that costs twice as much. The German automaker has now extended the line-up by introducing the Mercedes GLS Grand Edition at a price of Rs. 86.9 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune). The Grand Edition is available in petrol and diesel trims, based on the GLS400 and GLS350d variants respectively.

From the outside, ‘Grand Edition’ exterior badges, unique black rings on LED Intelligent light system and chrome fins on the bonnet are few things that differentiate the Grand Edition cars from the regular ones. Sitting on 20-inch alloy wheels finished in high-sheen and black shade, the full-size luxury SUV is offered in 6 colour options – Citrine Brown, Designo Diamond White Bright, Cavansite Blue, Obsidian Black, Iridium Silver and Tenorite Grey. Inside the cabin, you get RSES (Rear Seat Entertainment System) as standard that comprises of two 7-inch displays for the middle row occupants.

Powering the GLS400 Grand Edition is a familiar 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that puts out 333 HP of power and 480 Nm of torque. The GLS350d Grand Edition continues to use a 3.0-litre V6 fuel-burner unit that churns out 258 HP of power and 620 Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Emphasising on low cost of maintenance for the two models, the automaker also introduced new service packages (covering 2 years and unlimited kms) starting from Rs. 75,000/- for the GLS400 and Rs. 1.04 lakhs for the GLS350d.
