Mercedes Benz S-Class Facelift Launched

After introducing the S560 and S650 limousines in the country at the Auto Expo, Mercedes-Benz has now launched the facelifted version of the S-Class. The facelifted version of the brand’s flagship sedan is available in 4 variants – S350d, S450, Maybach S560 and Maybach S650. While the former is priced at Rs. 1.33 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi), the S450 which is a petrol-powered variant comes at a slight premium of Rs. 4 lakhs. The Maybach S560 and S650 are priced at Rs. 1.94 crores and Rs. 2.73 crores respectively.

Starting with the exterior, the sedan features new MULTIBEAM LED headlights, tail-lights and revised front and rear bumpers and that pretty much sums up the changes on the outside. Step inside and the first thing that catches attention is the new 3-spoke steering wheel that looks way better than the 2-spoke unit it replaces. There is new switchgear used in the cabin now and when it comes to other creature comforts and quality of materials (plastics and leather) used, it is what we have come to see from an S-Class.

There are two 12.3-inch high-definition screens that take care of the instruments and infotainment. The COMAND infotainment system gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and comes paired with a Burmester Surround Sound system. Mercedes also offers optional individual seats that give you a massage and apart from the heating and cooling function, they also feature a new fragrance function. Other features offered are 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging for QI enabled phones, electrically adjustable seats with memory function and 10.2-inch individual entertainment screen for rear passengers.

Aided by a host of electronics and sensors, the 2018 Mercedes S-Class comes with active speed assist, steering assist, braking assist as well as blind spot assist feature. The S350d is powered by a 3.0-litre, inline-six motor that cranks out 286 HP of power and 600 Nm of torque. This particular diesel mill is codenamed OM 656 and has the distinction of meeting BS 6 emission norms. The S450 variant draws power from a 2996cc Bi-Turbo petrol motor that puts out 362 HP of power and 500 Nm of torque. The two powertrains come mated to a 9-speed G-Tronic automatic gearbox to power the rear wheels.

The Maybach S560 comes powered by a 3982cc V8 petrol engine producing 463 HP of power and 700 Nm of torque while the Maybach S650 gets a 5980cc V12 petrol engine producing 621 HP of power and a massive 1000 Nm of torque. The S650 gets a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

Mercedes-Benz has thrown in a plethora of safety features in the S-Class facelift which include multiple airbags, 360-degrees camera, Night View Assist Plus and Active Parking Assist in addition to the optional driving assistance package.
