MG Motor India reveals new 5 year roadmap

MG Motor India has announced its ambitious 5-year business roadmap aimed at Indianizing its operations for sustainable growth. Their strategic initiatives includes localisation, technological advancements, increased Indian shareholding and a focus on social responsibility.

The cornerstone of MG Motor India’s expansion plan is the establishment of a second manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The new plant will boost the combined production capacity to from the current 1,20,000 units to 3,00,000 units annually.

In line with the global shift towards electric mobility, MG Motor India plans to introduce 4-5 new cars, with a major emphasis on electric vehicles (EVs). By 2028, the company aims to achieve 65-75% of its total sales from its EV portfolio. To support this objective, MG Motor India plans local manufacturing of EV components and establish a battery assembly unit in Gujarat.

The carmaker is committed to investing over Rs. 5000 crores in advanced clean technologies, including hydrogen fuel cells and cell manufacturing. They also plan to have a total workforce of 20,000 by 2028.

Through the MG Nurture program, the company plans to collaborate with 50 institutes to train 1,00,000 students on the latest technologies such as EVs, connected cars and ADAS systems.
