MG Windsor Pro Teaser

MG Windsor Pro launch on May 6 with enhanced features & longer driving range

MG Motor India has officially confirmed that the Windsor Pro, a more feature-rich version of its electric hatchback, will debut on May 6, 2025. The new model arrives just eight months after the standard Windsor’s launch in the Indian market and is positioned to offer enhancements in performance, technology, and comfort.

Larger Battery and Improved Range

A key highlight of the Windsor Pro will be its new 50.6kWh battery pack, replacing the 38kWh unit used in the current model. This battery is already in use in international markets like Indonesia, where the vehicle is sold as the Wuling Cloud EV. According to the CLTC cycle, the larger battery offers a claimed range of 460 km, compared to the ARAI-rated 332 km of the standard model.

While the battery capacity increases, the electric motor is expected to remain unchanged, continuing to produce 136 HP and 200 Nm of torque and retaining the front-wheel-drive layout. This suggests that performance will largely be similar, with gains focused on range and efficiency.

Real-World Driving and Charging Efficiency

In practical use, the current Windsor has demonstrated strong efficiency, achieving an average of 8.1 km/kWh and a real-world range of around 308 km. For comparison, the Nexon EV—fitted with a 45kWh battery—returns 350 km of real-world range but with slightly lower efficiency.

With the new 50.6kWh battery, the Windsor Pro could potentially reach close to 400 km in real-world conditions, making it more appealing for intercity travel. The model is also expected to retain fast charging capability, with previous tests showing that the existing Windsor can gain up to 232 km of range in just 35 minutes on a DC fast charger.

Feature and Design Upgrades

Beyond the mechanical changes, the Windsor Pro is expected to gain several new features. These include:

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging support
  • New alloy wheel designs
  • Possibly a powered tailgate

Interior and exterior enhancements are also anticipated, though full details are yet to be revealed by the manufacturer.

Pricing and Market Positioning

The Windsor Pro will be positioned above the existing model, which is currently priced between Rs. 14 lakhs and Rs. 16 lakhs (ex-showroom). With the added battery capacity and new features, a price increase is likely, although exact figures will be disclosed at launch.

Sales Performance and Market Impact

Since its launch in September 2024, the Windsor has made a strong impact in the EV segment. MG has sold over 19,000 units in seven months, averaging more than 2700 units per month. Notably, it has managed to surpass the Tata Nexon EV in monthly sales—an impressive feat given the Nexon’s long-standing dominance in the segment.

With the introduction of the Pro variant, MG aims to further solidify its foothold in the electric vehicle market, offering buyers greater range and premium features.
