Like all cars from the company, the MINI Electric also comes with a big price tag
The MINI Electric has been introduced in India at Rs. 47.20 lakhs (ex-showroom), today. The car that is brought in as a completely built-up unit (CBU) is available only in 3-door Cooper SE guise.
Based on the conventional MINI 3-door hatchback, the electric vehicle (EV) looks very similar to the combustion engine model. But, there are details that help people recognise that it does not have a tailpipe.
Elements such as ‘Energetic Yellow’ accents on the outside, along with mirror caps and logos in the same colour, design elements that come in Piano Black and the 17-inch alloy wheels that have asymmetrical spokes will let people know that this is an electric MINI.
Available in colour choices such as British Racing Green, Midnight Black, Moonwalk Grey and White Silver, the EV has a modern interior with exclusive MINI Electric ‘Interior Surface’, sports seats with cloth/leatherette combination upholstery in Black Pearl/Carbon Black and multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather.
Featuring a high price, MINI Electric hatchback also comes with a large equipment list. It has a 5-inch instrument display, 8.8-inch touchscreen, rear-view camera, ambient lighting, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Harmon Kardon speaker system.
In addition, the car also comes with different driving modes, cruise control, parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor, auto start/stop function, brake energy recuperation and active cooling air ducts.
The MINI Electric features a 32.6 kWh battery pack that provides juice to a 135 kW (181 BHP) electric motor delivering 270 Nm of maximum torque. The car can complete the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 7.3 seconds and cover 270 km on a single charge.
According to the British marque, the following are the charging times (0-80 percent) of the EV that will be offered with a wallbox charger –
- 9 hours and 43 minutes using a 2.3 kW AC charger
- 2 hours and 30 minutes using a 11 kW AC charger and
- 36 minutes using a 50 kW DC charger
The standard safety equipment that the EV comes with include front passenger airbags, Brake Assist, ABS, Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
All units of the car were sold out during the pre-launch booking held in the last quarter of 2021. MINI India will begin delivering the electric hatchback to customers from March 2022 and will subsequently open the second phase of bookings online.
MINI Electric comes with a standard 2-year warranty for unlimited km (extendable to up to 5 years) and a battery warranty for 8 years or up to 1 lakh km. Also, customers of the car will get road-side assistance for 5 years.
