Love for SUVs is evident in today’s market scenario as we can see almost every carmaker preparing SUVs in different shapes and sizes targeting a range of price points to lure customers. At one end, Ford has introduced the sub-compact affordable SUV, EcoSport in the international market and at the other end, the premium luxury carmaker Bentley is working for a range topping luxurious SUV. Currently, the Volkswagen lineup consists of two SUVs including the full-sized Touareg and the compact Tiguan. The German automaker is planning to launch the next generation Tiguan with two new variants, XL and Coupe.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is the most popular SUV in Germany since its launch in 2008, doing good numbers for the German automaker. The next generation Tiguan is expected to be introduced around 2014 – 2015 and is likely to be based on the latest Volkswagen’s MQB modular transverse platform. As the name tells us, the additional XL variant will be an extended wheelbase version of the Tiguan SUV offering more cabin space. The Coupe version of the Tiguan will showcase an aggressive styling treatment with a low slung stance to attract buyers.

The next generation Volkswagen Tiguan will come with both diesel and petrol engine options ranging from 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor to 2.0-litre diesel units with several output figures. Volkswagen is also considering fuel efficient BlueMotion and hybrid variants of the next Tiguan. The German automaker recently showcased the CrossBlue SUV Concept and the CrossBlue Coupe Concept and is on a verge to expand its SUV lineup, following the new design language. The Indian market is currently awaiting the sub-compact Volkswagen Taigun, which the automaker plans to launch in 2016.
