Kawasaki saw a huge growth in sales due to value for money offerings

The premium motorcycle segment was very interesting in the month of February. There was a lot of movement in terms of sales with bikes which are value for money being preferred by customers. The biggest loser of the month was Honda which lost more than 50% as compared to January and the biggest gainer was Kawasaki with almost 50% gain.

Starting off with Royal Enfield, the sales of all models remained similar to the previous month’s sales. This is more to do with limited production capacity than demand as the demand is much higher leading to long waiting periods. The KTM pavilion also saw similar sales with the 390 twins gaining a little.

Harley-Davidson seems to have hit well with customers with the 2016 Street 750 which is now seeing good numbers. The Iron 883 and the Forty-Eight however have lost numbers even after the 2016 update. The Street Bob, Fat Bob and Fat Boy saw excellent sales growth covering up the reduction in sales of other models.

Kawasaki gained a lot of numbers in February riding on the high sales of the Z800 and a good response to the Versys 650. Triumph has also hit the right cord with the Street Twin as it seems to have found seventy customers after being launched in February. Suzuki saw similar numbers as previous month riding on the Hayabusa’s success.

Honda saw a huge drop in sales mainly due to the drop in CBR250R’s numbers. The 250cc motorcycle is simply too old to be finding new customers now and needs to be replaced in line with the global update. In fact, the Mahindra Mojo managed to sell 96 units last month which is more than the 83 units the CBR250R managed. Yamaha is getting decent numbers with the R3 now and the dealer issues seem to have been sorted out. Quite a lot of movement this month!
