The Gixxer and SF models equipped with a rear disc brake will be priced at a marginal premium over the standard models and are expected to go on sale by next month.

It has been a year since Suzuki Motorcycles launched the Gixxer 155 in India that managed to change the fortunes of the company. The full faired Gixxer SF followed suit this April and has been doing consistently well month-over-month promising a bright future. Given the appreciative performance, one of the few things that did irk owners (apart from the initial rusting issue) was the absence of a rear disc brake, which was not offered even as optional. Nevertheless, Suzuki has paid close attention to customer feedback it seems and is gearing up to launch the rear disc brake equipped Gixxer and SF models later this year.

The rear disc brake equipped Suzuki Gixxer and SF motorcycles were caught testing in the Delhi-NCR region recently and will go on sale as a new variant in addition to the outgoing rear drum brake equipped version. The pricing is expected to be at a premium of around Rs. 5000-6000/- over the current version, thereby creating a sizeable difference between both trims. In terms of mechanicals, do not expect any significant changes as power will continue to come from a 155cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine tuned to produce 14.8 PS of power and 14 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The bikes also get Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology for improved fuel efficiency.

The Suzuki Gixxer and SF share the same underpinnings while it is the fairing on the latter which makes it more aerodynamic and aggressive to ride. The presence of the rear disc brake will compliment the power output well and is certainly a needed addition. While the launch date is not disclosed as yet, reports suggest that Suzuki could introduce the model in October this year during the festive season, banking on the high purchasing sentiment. This is the second update to the Gixxer this year after the dual-tone colours were introduced some time back.
