The bike is already available for bookings at all Royal Enfield dealerships.
Royal Enfield has already begun aligning its products with the upcoming safety regulations which will be put into effect by April 2019. The bike manufacturer has now fitted the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) to the Thunderbird 500X. Royal Enfield is offering it at a price tag of Rs. 2.13 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The upgraded bike is already up for bookings at all Royal Enfield dealerships. The factory-custom version bike was launched earlier this year and is based on the standard model. It comes with more eye-catching colours applied on the fuel-tank, the flat handlebars, alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. With the addition of this ABS system, this makes the Thunderbird 500X the highest-priced motorcycle offered by Royal Enfield that employs a single-cylinder.
Besides the addition of the ABS system, everything else remains the same on this bike. The bike is powered by a 499cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine which has a capacity to generate 27 BHP of power and a peak torque of 41 Nm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The telescopic forks at the front and the twin shock absorbers at the rear take care of the suspension. Discs at both ends handle the braking.
The new mandate by the government to impose fitting all bikes above 125cc with a standard ABS system is a move to make the Indian customers choose safety along with pricing. While there will be an initial hike in prices, the mandatory use of ABS on all 125cc bikes and above will make these prices go down when there is mass-scale use. People should not view their safety as a premium.
