September 2019 Scooter Sales

The 2-wheeler industry has not been immune to the economic slowdown and fell by 13% in September 2019. While some products have shuffled up a bit, the Honda Activa continues to sit on top as the unperturbed market leader. Though the sales have slowed a bit and the market-favourite scooter has recorded a decline of 13% in September 2019.

Honda has recently launched the BS6 Activa 125 which is India’s first BS6-compliant 2-wheeler. It is available in 3 variants – Standard, Alloy and Deluxe from between Rs. 67,490/- and Rs. 74,490/-, all prices, ex-showroom. All three variants are powered by a 124cc engine that produces 8.1 PS of power. It is important to note that while the BS6 model uses a carburetted engine, the unit on the new BS6 Activa is fuel-injected.

It’s not just the Activa that has retained its position, the TVS Jupiter and Suzuki Access continue to be in the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, just like last month. Interestingly, most of the positions are the same when compared to August 2019 with the only change coming at the 7-8th position. While the TVS Jupiter has fallen -24% (YoY), the Access has managed to keep itself afloat with a 7% rise in sales.

Other positive figures are reported by TVS Ntorq at the 5th position and the Hero Pleasure at the 6th position i.e 34% and 23% respectively. The Hero Maestro is up one place, to take the 7th position with a -62% YoY, while the Yamaha Fascino has stumbled to the 8th position.
