SSC Tuatara

Remember the SSC Ultimate Aero TT? The supercar from Shelby Supercars which was touted as the fastest car in the world till the more power Bugatti Veyron Super Sport came along. Well, the same company is now all set to take the title of the fastest production car in the world back with its new offering, the Tuatara. Named after a New Zealand reptile, the SSC Tuatara is powered by a massive 7.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, V8 engine which produces 1350 hp of power. The massive power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 7-speed manual gearbox or an optional 7-speed SMG Paddle Shift sequential automatic transmission. Performance figures are yet to be revealed but on paper, the new SSC Tuatara has the Veyron covered.

“The design specifications for the Next Generation SSC were so extreme, we knew early on that a proper name would be a key piece of the puzzle for this project. Most manufacturers essentially use the same basic model and body shape for up to 10 years, while only making small refinements to it each year. After only three years in production with the Ultimate Aero, SSC’s Tuatara is about to monumentally evolve in the areas of sophistication, design, aerodynamics and shear all‐around performance. We felt that the fastest evolving DNA was a perfect definition of SSC’s latest project,” Jarod Shelby, founder, SSC, said.
