Suzuki GSX-R300 patent images leaked, could be unveiled this year at the 2018 EICMA.

Suzuki GSX-R300 Patent
The Japanese bike maker has filed a patent application for a brand new 300cc sports bike with a parallel-twin motor

Post the patent images of the GSX-S300 were leaked a month back, the patent images of the Suzuki GSX-R300 have now been doing rounds on the internet. The images reveal the new 300cc sports bike with a parallel-twin engine. The GSX-R300 will be Suzuki’s first performance 300cc sports bike and it is expected to be revealed at the 2018 EICMA.

With the popularity of the middleweight bikes on the fall, the sub-500cc bikes segment is on the rise. While Suzuki already has the GSX-250R in its global line-up, it is a rather calm and soft motorcycle when compared to the Yamaha R3, Honda CBR250RR and the KTM RC390. The GSX-250R uses an old 248cc twin-cylinder 2-valve motor that makes 24.7 HP and 23 Nm. For perspective, the Honda CBR250RR uses 4-valves and the 249.7cc powertrain manages to produce 38.1 HP while the Yamaha R3 displaces 321cc with a 41.4 HP power output. The Japanese company is aiming at increasing the power and torque figures significantly with the new GSX-R300.

The patent diagram reveals that the parallel-twin engine will be mounted on a tubular frame, similar to a trellis frame and will likely share internal dimensions with the GSX-R125. The new motor is likely to have a power output of 40 HP thereby putting the GSX-R300 in the league of the Honda CBR250RR and the Yamaha R3. In terms of underpinnings, the 300cc performance bike is likely to use inverted forks up front and a monoshock at the rear with an aluminium swingarm.

The design of the GSX-R300 is in line with the Suzuki’s current design language and more or less resembles the GSX-R125. The headlight and the seats are similar to its smaller sibling while the side panels and the tank appear to be more angular and aggressive. The 10-spoke alloy wheels too are similar to the ones on the GSX-250R and the GSX-R125.
