Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Concept Side
It is a one-off concept vehicle

This particular Suzuki Jimny 5-door is a concept vehicle

The official reveal of the Suzuki Jimny 5-door is still quite a while away but that does not mean that a version of the compact off-roader with 2 extra doors will not come into existence in the near future.

A group of students from the Nihon Automotive Technology School (NATS) in Japan are currently working on a 5-door Suzuki Jimny but with a twist.

This concept vehicle will look like a compact yet brutish off-roader that makes use of the 3-door Jimny’s bodyshell. Well, sort of, as only certain portions of the body remain unaltered.

Even the chassis of the concept car has received changes

Since the chassis of the car has been altered to be 400 mm longer than stock, the bodyshell has been modified extensively. Further, apart from fixing a pair of doors, which were custom-made, behind the front ones, the NATS students made the original side apertures into small quarter windows.

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door concept will sport off-road-oriented setup with wider tracks and to haul the added mass, the 1.5-litre petrol engine will be fitted with a turbocharger as well.

This concept will be showcased at the next edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon (14th to 16th January 2022) and should be a hit among fans of the Jimny, of which there are many across the globe.

The front bumper will be new and the fender extensions are wider

Suzuki is expected to officially unveil the 5-door Jimny later next year. It will be 300 mm longer than the 3-door model at 3850 mm and will have a 2550 mm wheelbase.

While its width (1645 mm), height (1730 mm), track width (1395 mm/1405 mm) and ground clearance (210 mm) will remain the same as the 3-door model, the car will weigh 100 kg more at 1190 kg.

The 5-door Jimny will be sold in India and will rival the Mahindra Thar. It is not known if the 3-door model of the compact off-roader will be sold alongside it.
