Latest generation Suzuki Swift Sport spied for the first time in India

The latest international-spec Suzuki Swift Sport has been spied for the first time on our shores.

The reportedly European-spec 2022 model features some styling revisions and tweaks on the inside when compared to the standard global model and its arrival here could definitively spark interest among enthusiasts.

The model spotted is most likely to be a private import but the reports of Maruti Suzuki bringing it here for internal testing shouldn’t dismissed either.

Nevertheless, if it truly grabs attention, Maruti Suzuki might consider launching it here as its no-diesel strategy is hurting its sales big time. The brand is currently in dire need of more models to compensate for the slowdown.

The 2022 Swift Sport is powered by the same inline 4-cylinder 1.4-litre Booster Jet turbo-VVT petrol engine that puts out 138 HP at 5500 RPM and 230 Nm between 2500 and 3500 RPM. The car can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 8 seconds. Its claimed fuel efficiency is 18.7 km/l.

The Swift Sport is one of the very few hot hatchbacks in the world with a proper manual transmission that offers maximum fun behind the wheels. It can hit a stop speed of 210 km/hr.

The updated model also gets a stiffened up chassis and suspension to offer good handling characteristics. But if, Maruti Suzuki brings it to India, the suspension will be toned down a bit to suit our road conditions. The ground clearance will be increased and the low profile tyres will be replaced with normal ones.

Coming to the looks, the Sport features a larger griller with scooped out panels for a meaner look. The creases are more pronounced and they not offer aggressive looks to the car but also aide in aerodynamics to a certain extent. The hot hatch drives on large 17-inch alloys wheels. At the rear the prominent exhaust tip carries forward the aggressive design language.
