Tata Motors launched the Harrier 5-seater SUV earlier this year and it is a known fact that the automaker is readying a 7-seater version of the vehicle. Tata showcased the Buzzard at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and it was speculated that the Indian version of the 7-seater would be called either Buzzard or Cassini.

Putting speculations to rest, Tata Motors has now dropped the first teaser for their upcoming SUV by revealing its name. The Tata Gravitas is based on the Harrier and will come with the same 2.0-litre engine but it will get a higher 170 HP state of tune, like the Jeep Compass.

The Tata Gravitas will feature a fascia similar to the Harrier but the rear will have a considerably re-worked design. The interior will carry the same layout though we can expect a different colour theme in the cabin. The Gravitas will also get multiple drive modes, Apple CarPlay connectivity, projectors, DRLs, etc.

While the Harrier is only available with a manual transmission for now, we can expect the Tata Gravitas to come with an automatic right from day 1. It will be a 6-speed torque convertor sourced from Hyundai. Tata will also offer a 6-speed manual. Customers have missed the absence of a factory-fitted sunroof in the Harrier, but we’re not sure whether the Gravitas will get one or not.

Tata Motors will be launching the Altroz in early 2020 while the Gravitas will be launched in February 2020. Pricing will be a bit higher than the Harrier.
