Tata Safari Storme Road Test

Tata Safari is one of the most successful SUVs in India since its launch in 1998. The SUV is known for its comfortable ride quality and strong off-road performance. Tata Motors launched the new generation Safari in October 2012 re-named as Safari Storme. Initially the automaker launched the Safari Storme only in Maharashtra, Delhi and Punjab because of some production issues. Tata Motors have now ramped up the production and the SUV is expected to be available across the country by February.

The Safari Storme is available in the Northern and Eastern markets and will be available in the Southern and Western markets soon. Tata Motors have received 6000 bookings for the Safari Storme since its launch. Based on the Aria’s X2 platform, the Safari Storme features a 2.2-litre VariCOR diesel engine churning out a maximum power output of 140 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. To operate the 4-wheel drive system, the SUV comes equipped with an electronic ‘shift on fly’ mechanism.

Tata Motors is currently feeling the heat from the Mahindra XUV500 as it offers a huge list of features compared to the Safari Storme. Tata Motors is planning to roll out more variants of the Safari Storme with more features, some of it being taken from the Aria to increase the sales. We can expect an automatic variant of the SUV soon along with increased list of equipment. The Tata Safari Storme comes with a starting price of Rs. 9,95,000/- (ex-showroom Delhi).
