Tata Motors and Mahindra secure good sales for the Zest and Scorpio respectively. The Maruti Alto remains the undisputed king in the Indian auto market.

Maruti Alto Review
Despite poor equipment and safety, nothing can beat the Alto in sales

The past couple of months have seen a number of new car launches in India. Apart from new models, many manufacturers have also refreshed their existing products. Since October has begun now, it was time to compile a list of vehicles that turned out to be the top-sellers in the month of September.

In the compact hatchback segment, the Maruti Alto remained a clear winner just like always with 19,906 units. Following it closely is the Wagon R from the same stable with 15,641 units. The Hyundai Eon and the Celerio had a close call at 6489 and 6382 units respectively. Moving to premium hatchbacks, it is not at all surprising to see the Maruti Swift at the top with 17,625 units. The Hyundai Elite i20 managed a good 8903 sales while its younger sibling Grand i10 found 7285 new homes. The very capable Fiat Punto Evo sold only 806 units which is quite a disappointment for a car which definitely deserves to sell better.

In the compact sedan segment, it is the Maruti Swift DZire which is a winner with 18,185 sales. The DZire remains the second highest selling car in the country. The Hyundai Xcent sold 4481 units while its close rival Honda Amaze sold 3848 units. The newly-launched Tata Zest managed 3331 sales in September. Coming to C-segment sedans, the Honda City is sitting at the top with 4599 sales while the Hyundai Verna is far behind with 2395 units. The Tata Indigo, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid sold 1712, 1450 and 1357 units respectively.

In the MUV segment, the Toyota Innova has always been at the top despite the fact that it is overpriced and dated now. It sold 5876 units while the Maruti Ertiga followed closely at 5672 units. The recently-launched Honda Mobilio managed an impressive 5329 sales. Mahindra introduced the new Scorpio recently and the SUV managed to sell 6060 units. Ford sold 4515 units of the EcoSport while the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano sold 3410 and 1768 units respectively.
