Compact SUV Sales August 2020
Venue goes to the top as Vitara Brezza finds comparatively less takers

The August 2020 compact SUV sales has seen a role reversal at the top, as the Hyundai Venue goes to the number one spot, relegating Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to second.

Hyundai managed to sell 8267 units of the Venue, while Maruti could muster 6903 units of the Vitara Brezza. However, both cars saw sales drop by 12 percent and three percent, respectively, while the Brezza further lost out on the month-over-month growth as well.

People are slowly warming up to the Tata Nexon as the compact SUV is posting consistent figures. In August, the car sold 5179 times, a colossal 128 percent growth over the same period last year.

Another car to post positive growth is the safest car made in India, the Mahindra XUV300, which saw 18 percent growth as customers drove home just 10 shy of 3000 units of the car.

While the Tata Nexon was the biggest winner in August, it was Honda’s WR-V that was the biggest loser, as it saw 45 percent of its sales y-o-y go away and 729 units get sold.

Surprisingly, the car which is second in terms of degrowth in the August 2020 compact SUV sales list is the segment leader Hyundai Venue. Although it tops the chart, the SUV lost 12 percent of its sales in comparison with the year before.

Finally, we come to the Ford EcoSport, which although is in fifth place in the list with 2757 units retailed, saw its sales dip by four percent. However, overall sales of the compact SUV segment increased by two percent, with 26,825 units retailed in total.
