The Alto contributed to half of the segment sales

October 2020 hatchback sales is lead by Maruti products in all three segments of small cars, hatchbacks and premium hatchbacks.

Maruti Alto leads the small car segment, with 17,850 units, by a huge margin over the S-Presso which garnered 10,612 unit sales.

Renault sold 5371 units of the Kwid, while Datsun sold 910 units of the redi-GO. Overall, sales were on a par with the numbers registered during the same period one year ago.

It was the Swift, which once again occupied the top spot in the hatchback sales chart with 24,589 unit sales.

Second-placed Wagon R saw 18,703 units get sold, while Hyundai’s Grand i10 and Nios duo sold 14,003 units combined.

The Celerio (7574 units), Tata Tiago (6083) and Maruti Ignis (4555) occupied fourth, fifth and sixth spots. Cars occupying last three spots, namely Santro, Figo and GO, witnessed a huge drop in sales figures.

In the premium hatchback segment, it was the Maruti Suzuki Baleno that topped the charts with 21,971 units.

Coming a distant second was the Hyundai Elite i20, having sold 8399 units, followed close enough by the Tata Altroz with 6730 units.

Toyota managed to sell close to 3000 units of the Glanza, while the Volkswagen Polo did 1564 unit sales.

Overall, the segment recorded 43,132 unit sales with a healthy 18 percent year-over-year growth rate.
