Toyota Corolla Next-Gen Concept Unveiled, Likely To Be A Plug-In Hybrid Or Pure EV
While we eagerly await the Lexus LFR’s debut, Toyota surprised us with an entirely different reveal. The much-hyped Japan livestream didn’t showcase the supercar. Instead, it unveiled several vehicles, including the striking new Corolla concept.
Design Changes
Toyota officially labels it a concept, featuring regular side mirrors that suggest production readiness. A fuel cap on the front fender hints that it is electrified. While it could be a plug-in hybrid, it’s more likely a pure EV.
The short hood suggests a dedicated EV platform beneath. However, Toyota keeps the mystery alive with its teased compact four-cylinder engine. Either way, this design signals a bold new direction for the Corolla lineup.
Despite the electric focus, Toyota probably won’t abandon combustion engines. The Corolla continues to be the world’s best-selling nameplate and a core model. Toyota’s practical view on EVs suggests hybrid and gasoline versions will coexist.
Expected Powertrain
Toyota has not revealed technical details yet. Speculation hints at an EV and combustion lineup sharing similar styling cues. Distinct features include pixelated DRLs, a ducktail spoiler, and a sharply sloping beltline near the A-pillars.
Outlook
The full unveiling will happen at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. The press begins the event on October 29. The iconic Corolla from Toyota appears ready to embrace an exciting, electrified future.
