Toyota has launched all the cars it had declared it would a couple of years ago. There is no new car awaited from the Japanese automaker except refreshes of the current vehicles and new variants. However the company has declared its intention to launch more small cars in the country. Toyota is planning to partner with its sister concern, Daihatsu to bring a car smaller than the Etios Liva and a car which would be a premium hatchback. The small car would rival the Maruti WagonR and Hyundai Santro, whereas the premium hatchback will take the fight to the Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Grande Punto. Toyota also plan to launch a compact SUV in India, which would slot below the Innova.

“The line-up of cars that we have in India is not sufficient to cater to the growing demands of this market. The company sees a larger potential for cars like one smaller and cheaper than the Liva, a car bigger and more expensive than it and a compact SUV,” Hiroji Onishi, president, Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, said.
