The SUV will have a 2.5-litre petrol motor working in conjunction with a hybrid system

Toyota has plans to launch its RAV4 hybrid SUV in India by mid-2021, in a bid to further strengthen its product portfolio. To be imported under the 2500 limited units allocation, the hybrid will most likely be a CBU.

One of Toyota’s popular global products, the RAV4 is in its fifth generation at present. Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, it not a full-blown SUV with massive proportions.

It is 4600 mm long, 1855 mm wide and 1685 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2690 mm. It also has a very generous boot space of over 700 litres (measured till the roof).

The RAV4 hybrid has good looks too, with its large bumper, sizeable grille and lower air dam, sleek headlights all give it that distinctive Toyota look. While the side profile does have a few creases here and there and a massive wheel arch gap, as befits an SUV, the glass area seems a bit small in pictures.

At the back, the tailgate is huge and also integrates with the bumper portion, the taillights are combined by a styling strip and there is also a small spoiler atop the tailgate.

Interior-wise, the Toyota RAV4 hybrid is minimalist and functional at best. There are chrome touches around the infotainment screen, centre console, air vents, door cards, etc, but this does change depending on the model, since Toyota also offers colour-coded bits.

Thus, exterior and interior might sport changes and it all depends on what trim-level Toyota brings to India. We expect the SUV to be fully-loaded to say the least.

Powering the RAV4 would be a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a hybrid system, putting out 218 HP and it will be mated to a CVT. The hybrid system will help the SUV with fuel economy and offer it all-wheel drive as well. When Toyota RAV4 India launch takes place, the SUV might cost around Rs. 60 lakhs (ex-showroom).
