Triumph In India Plans To Expand The Entry-Level Premium Category With The OG Bonneville Name

Triumph Motorcycles has been spotted testing what is believed to be the upcoming Bonneville 400 in India. Hinting at the arrival of a new retro-styled motorcycle based on the brand’s locally developed platform. Although Triumph has not officially announced the model yet, sources indicate that the bike could make its India debut towards the festive season of 2026, with a launch likely at the end of the year.

The Bonneville 400 is expected to borrow its design inspiration from Triumph’s iconic Bonneville range. Featuring a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a round headlamp, twin rear shock absorbers, a flat seat and plenty of chrome detailing. Spy images suggest that the motorcycle will adopt a more classic roadster stance than the Speed 400, thanks to the spoke wheels, positioning it as a direct rival to retro motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Jawa Roadsters.

Under the tank, the upcoming Bonneville 400 is likely to use Triumph’s newly developed 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The downsized engine should help the motorcycle benefit from the lower 18 percent GST slab applicable to sub-350cc motorcycles, making it significantly more affordable than the existing 400cc range.

Performance figures are expected to be in the region of 35-37 bhp and 30-32 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox. Compared to the present 398cc engine, the new motor is likely to offer stronger low-end and mid-range torque delivery, suiting the Bonneville’s relaxed and classic riding character.

Pricing for the Triumph Bonneville 400 is expected to fall between Rs. 2 to 2.20 lakhs (ex-showroom), which would place it competitively within the premium retro motorcycle segment. More details regarding the final specifications, features and launch timeline are expected to be revealed closer to the motorcycle’s official debut.
